Decorative theory is the same in all types of rooms. Have essentials of comfort; plan every inch of space to hold conveniently what you really use. Store or throw away what you don’t use. Decide to live with charm and have books, pictures, plants about you. A hanging shelf on the wall back of the easy chair for books could be useful. Sometimes an end wall can have bookshelves on each side of a door or across the wall between two doors. In modern rooms the idea is the same.
Colonial stem glass, Wedgwood or Min ton china and a simple pattern in silver would be right in this type of room. Most of the Colonial silver has little ornamentation. The china shows more variety; a flower or decorative scene in the center is typical have your appointments suit the decorating of the room. This applies to the candlesticks or dishes on the sideboard as well as the linen, china, glass, silver and centerpiece used on the table. Of course we can not all be strictly correct in this, for we have to use what we have. Much of the charm of the three rooms illustrated lies in the definite character they are given in this way, so try to be as consistent as possible.
