Nowadays in the combination rooms the walls and woodwork of one part of the room match or blend in with the other. In the upper picture besides the dining counter into the living room, a round table for four and a dresser, which may be of maple or pine, are in one end of the kitchen. With the exception of the range, refrigerator and sink all cupboards and woodwork are of pine with the walls covered with a small green and white Colonial paper to harmonize with the solid green color of the living room. The lower picture shows the dining end of a combination living room. It is built entirely of knotty pine with exposed beams in the ceiling, relieved by white curtains and a red and white print valance.
Extension table, form fitting chairs, cushioned with foam rubber upholstered in a nubby linen, and buffet with both vertical and drawer space with or without a hutch top, is an attractive and useful group for a combination room. The hutch which may be had with clear or frosted glass is recommended as it gives height. This group is light in scale. Note the sheer fish net curtains and the dominant multi color patterns of the carpet.
“What an idea and how easy to follow!” were thoughts when I saw the picture below. For any collection of small pictures could be made important by such a grouping. Do you collect anything? You really should because it is the greatest fun and not necessarily costly. The other striking item here is the use of medallion of needlepoint on the chairs. This, too, you could do yourself. The walls and floor are plain, of course as background.
